Certified crane operators are in high demand all over the nation because cranes are used in such a wide variety of industries. OSHA requires that any person operating a crane or derrick with a capacity of 2,000lbs or greater must get a Crane Operator Certification, sometimes inaccurately called a Crane License, to be certified with an accredited organization. The National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators (NCCCO) is one such organization. NCCCO is the gold standard for crane operator certifications, their programs are nationally recognized, highly valued and set the highest standard in regards to OSHA requirements. It is important to note that this is a crane operator certification and not a crane license. Licenses are issued by government entities and certifications are issued by private organizations. Confusing these two terms happens often which is why it is important to understand the difference. Also NCCCO is commonly referred to as CCO for short.
